Alan Wake to be shown at GDC 2008?

Well according to Robbie Bach, President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft it is.

In a recent interview by Sith Gamer Robbie said this:

SG: One thing you talked about are the games- so far I think the 2008 year seems to be lacking. Especially when put up against the PS3 or Wii.
RB: Well were saving a lot of stuff for GDC, which is where we plan on showing off some big titles such as Halo Wars and Alan Wake.

Now I don’t know how accountable a site like Sith Gamer is, especially for a web blog hosted at wordpress.com, so take this with grain of salt for the time being. Also GDC is the Game Developer’s Conference held on the 18th to 22nd February this year.

And then our dreams where shattered:

Microsoft says Alan Wake info is false
http://www.videogamer.com/news.....-7391.html

“An interview with little-known blog Sith Gamer rocketed across the internet over the last week. Revelations from Microsoft’s Robbie Bach that the platform holder would be showing off the very secretive Alan Wake and other titles at the upcoming GDC were far too juicy for gamers to ignore. It now turns out that all this teased info has come from the mind of the blogger, Microsoft informing VideoGamer.com that this interview is entirely fictional.”

Hopefully we still see some Alan Wake at GDC.

And again it’s coming from no known source with no proof that Microsoft has denied it. Like I mentioned in the news post theres no way of believing anything without it coming direct from the source.

I can easily say “Microsoft has recently confirmed that Alan Wake will be shown at GDC 2008 with a release date set for fall 2008″ but obviously that’s not true.

Best thing to do would be to wait until GDC and see if it’s shown :)

I wouldn’t believe them never even heard of their website
if this is proves true we may not see Alan Wake for a long time.

All right I’ve got 4 release dates here in front of me
march 21-08
summer of 2008
October 2008
and some time in 2009:(

I thought this was fake, I read on the official Xbox Forums, someone posted that this news was fake and that Alan Wake wouldn’t be at GDC 2008.

I don’t know what to believe or quite frankly what the GDC is…

Don’t worry, I’ll Google it.

Well if the hype around “Surfer Girl” is true and supposedly most she predicts comes true and she’s an industry insider then this is true as she confirmed we’ll see Alan Wake at GDC.

I have no idea who “Surfer Girl” is or how credible she is so again we’ll just have to wait and see if it does appear. There’s only a couple of more weeks left :)

A quote on the same page:
“*Update* - Surfer Girl has since retracted her predictions, blaming sleep deprivation for her original outburst.”

Gee, there’s a lot mixed messages being handed around about this GDC businesses. Personally, I’m just going to wait until GDC actually starts before hoping for anything.

For those that read in to that thread, the Aussie mag PC Powerplay has a release date of June 4th, 2008 for the game.

I just clarified that release date with the editor of PC Powerplay, he had this to say:

“Our dates were taken from publicly available and industry-specific release schedules, but unfortunately my opening comment of “we’re sure … that more than a few release dates will have changed at least three times already” has proven true.

I do apologise that the time between writing the article and it appearing on shelves has rendered some of the information in that feature inaccurate.” - Darren Wells

As far as we know, the release date is still “When it’s done”, according to Remedy. Microsoft likes to think that game will be released in 2008. Every other estimate is just that…an estimate.
