10 questions with Microsoft’s Shane Kim.

Yes we know it’s not really major news and that it’s been quite slow around here lately, we’ve had some interesting rumours surface in the past month that we were quick to dismiss as false. Just a heads up to everyone that we will only publish news stories here that aren’t rumours or false in any way, if we do we will specifically state it’s a rumour and should be treated as such.

Anyway now that’s out of the way onto the “news”. The Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Game Studios, Shane Kim recently answered 10 questions for gaming website Game Daily. In there he still mentions Alan Wake as one of the games that we can look forward to “later this year and beyond”, note the word beyond there.

You can head over here to read the interview.

The window for a 2008 release is still possible, but shrinking. Since Remedy absolutely needs this to succeed financially. If it does slip to 2009, I can’t imagine it being released until an appropriate season like summer or fall.

Im guessing Microsoft must be paying the bills at Remedy for quite some time now, because god knows they wouldnt have the finances to support them for going this long without a title!
Especially after MP2 didnt sell so well. They must be betting this’ll sell like the next GTA or something….

Remedy is self funded as they have made a LOT of money off Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2. Heck they got around $48 million dollars just for selling the rights to the Max Payne games and that’s not even included the almost $20 million dollars worth of shares they got as well.

Of course that’s split up 50:50 between 3D Realms and Remedy.

So add in that to the money they made off both MP1 and MP2 and they have more than enough finances to support them for another 20 years if they wanted.

Alan Wake’s costs have exceed 7 million dollars the last time we heard and that was back near the end of 2006, start of 2007. They don’t need help financially anymore.

Raveness: Usually the best window for PR is 6 months prior to release. They’ve still got time.

I know about the six month window, but that ends in July, hence why it is still possible, but shrinking. There hasn’t been an iota of info started up, and usually the six month campaign has a little bit of warmup prior.

Not necessarily. The 6 month campaign means they would start showing everything and then 6 months from that point the game will be released. There usually is no build up or anything.. the build up IS the 6 month period.

Well, that didn’t tell us very much, but it’s nice to hear him mention Alan Wake so we know it’s still around (I wonder if that was planned).

While I was reading the interview, scanning for AW references, my gaze kept falling on: “9. What is Microsoft doing to remedy the DRM issues affecting those who have suffered the red ring of death?”, simply because it has the word “Remedy” in it.

It is nice to see “quality” at the top of the importance list during the development cycle. I for one have no desire to waste money on a game that gets thrown to the public before being polished into a unique and enjoyable experience (I’m looking at you “games made in the spirit of motion pictures”).

That said, I’m still excited for AW and look forward to playing it.

Just my 2 cents.

Which will come out first: Alan Wake….or Duke Nukem Forever?

I think Duke will come first out…cause i think Alan Wake won´t come out in 2009 but rather 2010 ;-D
