Computer And Videogames.com recently interviewed Microsoft Game Studios Shane Kim and in the interview he mentioned that Alan Wake will not be shown at the Spring Showcase as they are controlling the release of new information very carefully with Remedy.

“When you can announce a game and get people really excited about it, the last thing you want to do is show it before it’s ready. Alan Wake is pretty ambitious, in terms of what it’s trying to do. It’s taking a very different approach to storytelling and gameplay and it’s taking a lot of work to get it right.”

You can read the rest of the interview right here. Thanks Dennis for the heads up.

I think Remedy will show at least a new trailer at E3 or Games Convention

brayshaw: The only comments I have ever deleted was flaming between users (even then it was only ever 2 or 3 comments total), I have never deleted any comments where users have posted their opinions.

As for the links it’s not really a reliable source that they got that from. A “spokesperson” at the spring showcase? If they were a valid source they would have got clarification from Remedy themselves.

Even Shane Kim commented recently that he can’t talk about the Alan Wake release:
http://venturebeat.com/2008/05.....long-tail/

“Is Alan Wake scheduled for 2008?

A: We haven’t announced a firm date for Alan Wake or Halo Wars. The stock answer is that they will ship when they are ready.”

As such I really doubt a spokesperson for Microsoft said that and even if one did I doubt they would be in the position to know that information. The official answer is “When it’s done”.

They can take all the time they need, and keep it lowkey until they are ready. There is no rush, and from what we’re hearing now, the focus will drift away from the technology and towards the gameplay style and narrative, two things that hardly have expiration dates on them like tech would.

I hope they gonna wait until Windows Seven is released, so won’t have to buy Vista or wait for Seven :P

why does this keep happing? remedy acting as if they never heard of Alan Wake.
“we fooled them” said Shane Kim and
It just gets deeper and deeper in delays
And who’s Dennis is he making is up
I give up I’ll look it up in the next 6 months
I can stand the wait only if it ends tho

Nibbles: Dennis is just a fan, it’s just an assumption from him.

Technically there’s also no delay as there was never a time period set. The release date has always, since day one, been “When it’s done”. Remedy are in a position where they can spend a lot more time on the game and create what they want.

I’ve been waiting since it was first announced and have been talking and interacting with the community since then as well but I’ve never been annoyed at it taking so long. I can wait if it means the game will be better :)
