Alan Wake to be shown at GDC 2008?

Well according to Robbie Bach, President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft it is.

In a recent interview by Sith Gamer Robbie said this:

SG: One thing you talked about are the games- so far I think the 2008 year seems to be lacking. Especially when put up against the PS3 or Wii.
RB: Well were saving a lot of stuff for GDC, which is where we plan on showing off some big titles such as Halo Wars and Alan Wake.

Now I don’t know how accountable a site like Sith Gamer is, especially for a web blog hosted at wordpress.com, so take this with grain of salt for the time being. Also GDC is the Game Developer’s Conference held on the 18th to 22nd February this year.

Alan Wake - Most Wanted Game roundup.

A couple of big name sites have listed Alan Wake on their most wanted game of 2008 lists.

- PC Gamer - “The only question is whether the developers can marshal their impressive technology around a creepy ghost-town ride without resorting to cliché. Given that Remedy’s last game was the hilariously tongue-in-cheek shooter Max Payne, we kind of hope not.”
- Gamespy - “The developers at Remedy have created an impressive engine that sports nifty weather and lighting effects, allowing them to craft highly atmospheric environments. We can’t wait to lose ourselves (and our minds) in this one.”
- Voodoo Extreme - “Remedy is the company that developed the Max Payne series, and it’s hard to not become excited.”
- The Sun - “Then there’s Alan Wake, another that’s been in development for more than two years but looks fantastic.”

Know some more? Email us and we’ll update the list!

Thanks to Spuuki for letting us know about the Voodoo Extreme article!

Gameplay Designer, Senior Environment Artist, Environment Artist, Programmer, Freelance Game Writer. Any of those sound like something you are capable and of course interested in? Want to help develop Alan Wake into a kickass game? Well here’s your chance.

Remedy Entertainment are looking to fill the above positions and best of all you don’t have to have worked on a AAA title before like so many other game development companies look for. In fact a few of the current Remedy employees had their first start developing some of your favourite mods for the Max Payne games.

So head over here and apply already!

Interview with Markus Mäki at PCGH.

German site PC Games Hardware has an interview with Remedy’s Director of Development, Markus Mäki. The interview answers some basic questions that weren’t known before such as Quad Cores will receive up to 30% of a performance gain and the official name of the Alan Wake engine is .. well just that. Who would have known?

One thing to clarify from this interview is that the title states “DX10 support still uncertain” which can be misread as it being unlikely that Remedy will support DX10. Remedy is keeping quiet about anything DX10 related but I’m sure we’ll start hearing more and more as time goes on. Another thing is that it seems a lot of gaming sites out there (*cough* Kotaku *cough) are for some reason thinking that Alan Wake being Vista exclusive is “news”, even though that’s been known since 2006.

Keep hangin’ in there everyone.

Hello gang! We are proud to finally launch BrightFalls.net, the premier news source for Alan Wake and Remedy Entertainment.

We have been hard at work for the past couple of months developing a news site that allows you to interact and comment on the latest Alan Wake news direct from Remedy or the community. Through services like Facebook and our inbuilt RSS feed you are able to follow the news very easily.

Just a little history for all you new folk out there. BrightFalls.net has been around in some form or another since early 2005 where we launched the community site AlanWake.net, the first Alan Wake fansite on the net and what would later become the official community site. AlanWake.net went down at the start of 2006 where it was merged into AlanWake.com and can now be found in the form of the Alan Wake official forums. Since then the news was one area which wasn’t handled very well within the forums and there were a number of attempts to get a dedicated news site up.

BrightFalls.com was one of those attempts, which due to a database corruption prematurely exited the online world. BrightFalls.com no longer is running and for anyone who still has the bookmark for that site please update it to BrightFalls.net.

We tried to recover as much older news as we could and theres even a nice little Christmas present from Remedy which offers you a new screenshot. We know it’s not much but it’s the best we could do during this media blackout. If you crave some info on the game then may I suggest heading over and checking out our in-depth Alan Wake FAQ where we answer every single question currently known about the game?

So that’s about it. Browse around the site and be sure to comment on the news (don’t need to register but it would be nice, it would also allow you to enter competitions and more features in the future!). If theres something you’d like to see here then feel free to post a reply here.

We hope you like the new replacement for the Alan Wake news forum, BrightFalls.net.
