Yes we know it’s not really major news and that it’s been quite slow around here lately, we’ve had some interesting rumours surface in the past month that we were quick to dismiss as false. Just a heads up to everyone that we will only publish news stories here that aren’t rumours or false in any way, if we do we will specifically state it’s a rumour and should be treated as such.

Anyway now that’s out of the way onto the “news”. The Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Game Studios, Shane Kim recently answered 10 questions for gaming website Game Daily. In there he still mentions Alan Wake as one of the games that we can look forward to “later this year and beyond”, note the word beyond there.

If you’re seeing this message it means you’re viewing the site on our brand new server. The server move was about as flawless as I could get it but unfortunately we had to lose a couple of the comments, since it was a fairly quiet period anyway it wasn’t too bad. This also means the site now allows you to register again, we apologize for the time the user registrations were down.

One quick announcement, the brightfalls.com and alanwakefaq.com domains will no longer point to the site. It is our next step in the transition to the brightfalls.net domain name. If you still use either of those I suggest you update your bookmarks!

Thanks!

Microsoft’s Shane Kim talks Xbox in 2008 and what it means for Alan Wake.

Wired.com recently interview Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. Shane talked about Alan Wake and what lies ahead and why they are holding back on releasing information about the game.

… “it is an ambitious, different kind of game. It’s exactly like the conversation we just had about Too Human. We’ve got to be careful about how we unveil that, right, so that we build on the excitement that people have and we don’t do any damage there. The good news is that it remains one of our most anticipated titles. Everybody’s asked me about it, which is awesome. Remedy’s a great partner for us. I think we’re going to have a huge hit on our hands.”

Alan Wake to be shown at GDC 2008?

Well according to Robbie Bach, President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft it is.

In a recent interview by Sith Gamer Robbie said this:

SG: One thing you talked about are the games- so far I think the 2008 year seems to be lacking. Especially when put up against the PS3 or Wii.
RB: Well were saving a lot of stuff for GDC, which is where we plan on showing off some big titles such as Halo Wars and Alan Wake.

Now I don’t know how accountable a site like Sith Gamer is, especially for a web blog hosted at wordpress.com, so take this with grain of salt for the time being. Also GDC is the Game Developer’s Conference held on the 18th to 22nd February this year.

Alan Wake - Most Wanted Game roundup.

A couple of big name sites have listed Alan Wake on their most wanted game of 2008 lists.

- PC Gamer - “The only question is whether the developers can marshal their impressive technology around a creepy ghost-town ride without resorting to cliché. Given that Remedy’s last game was the hilariously tongue-in-cheek shooter Max Payne, we kind of hope not.”
- Gamespy - “The developers at Remedy have created an impressive engine that sports nifty weather and lighting effects, allowing them to craft highly atmospheric environments. We can’t wait to lose ourselves (and our minds) in this one.”
- Voodoo Extreme - “Remedy is the company that developed the Max Payne series, and it’s hard to not become excited.”
- The Sun - “Then there’s Alan Wake, another that’s been in development for more than two years but looks fantastic.”

Know some more? Email us and we’ll update the list!

Thanks to Spuuki for letting us know about the Voodoo Extreme article!

Remedy Entertainment are looking to fill the above positions and best of all you don’t have to have worked on a AAA title before like so many other game development companies look for. In fact a few of the current Remedy employees had their first start developing some of your favourite mods for the Max Payne games.
